Caramel popcorn for the sweet tooth
Whenever I went to movies in my home country, caramel popcorn was the thing I looked forward to. It is sweet, crunchy and puts a twist on the classic salty popcorn. However, I can’t deny my surprise and disappointment when realizing that sweet popcorn is not a thing in Danish cinemas and is hard to find in general. If completely honest, I feel like the cinemas should put a wider variety of treats and popcorn as they are known to be way overpriced for what it is.
So I decided to make my own – here is a quick, 4 ingredient recipe for all the sweet-tooths out there who miss this delicious treat. Tip: If you prefer salted caramel treats – add some salt to this recipe and you won’t be disappointed.
Ingredients
- Popcorn (use store bought, microwaveable or pop your own)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- Half a can of condensed milk (around 200ml)
Process
Start by preheating your oven to 150°C and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
In a small pot melt the butter and sugar until the sugar starts to caramelize.
Add the condensed milk and continuously stir for 5 minutes. The consistency will start to resemble caramel.
Cover popcorn with the caramel and mix well together.
Line your popcorn on the baking pan evenly and bake for 10min. After 10min mix again and bake for 6 more minutes. Depending on your preference of caramel, keep baking until satisfied with the result. I prefer my caramel popcorn a little burned if you wish so I leave it in for a little longer.
Now comes the most daunting task – leave the popcorn to cool and enjoy!
