The Beauty of Basics
Those who are even a little interested in design and interior know, the Danish design company HAY is one of the most popular names in design industry in Denmark. Their products all have the signature simplicity and minimal aesthetics that characterise Scandinavian design.
Last year IKEA announced the collaboration with HAY and the excitement was real. The most curious product that the YPPERLIG collection brings is an updated version of the iconic blue IKEA bag. Without changing its shape or size, the bag is now introduced in 3 different colours.
“It’s one of the most known and used IKEA products, but one that no one appreciates as a design object. We kept its measurements and updated it in new patterns and colours. It’s a celebration of this iconic product.”
The early 1950s
Inspired by an early 1950s sofa, the single moulded sofa is a unique piece as IKEA has never done anything like it before. A challenge accepted brings a truly beautiful, minimal piece to the YPPERLIG collection and will steal the show in any home.
When it comes to Scandinavian minimalistic sofas, my thoughts split. Even though the designs are gorgeous and it is my little dream to own one, I do enjoy a sofa that allows you to lay down. So far these sofas haven’t seemed comfortable enough to do so. If you own a similar sofa or plan on getting one from the collection, what are your thoughts on this? Let me know in the comments.
This collection truly shows how a collaboration between Danish and Swedish design can blossom into something beautiful and unique.
Let us know which pieces are your favourite! For us, it would be a shame to miss out on the updated IKEA blue bag and the textiles that include the beautiful pillowcases in earthy, muted colours and the plaid that will keep you warm in the cold months.
